  • Android OS, v2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 832 MHz Processor

So that was summary of features and specification, Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos packs in. But let me unravel the hidden aspects and pros and cons of Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos in this review. Lets talk about design first.

Design

When it comes to design, Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos is no 8th wonder of the world, but a standard form factor just like its predecessor. The front is dominated by the 3.5″ display, surrounded with not so thick bezel. Top lies the earpiece, with Samsung logo, along with mentioning DUOS, as this is Dual SIM Android phone. Big hard Home button at the bottom centre, to its side, are two capacitive touch buttons.

Volume Keys to its right and power-key to its left, lacks dedicated camera button. 3.5 mm headset jack on top to its one side, whereas the bottom is occupied by microUSB v2.0 port, used for charging the phone and to connect the Data USB cable; and moutpiece.

The back of Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos is completely flat, with unnoticeable round off. 5MP camera is centrally placed near the top, along with the speaker grille to its right. Just like, Samsung Galaxy Ace, the camera lens is exposed and is vulnerable to scratches.

The device measures 112.7 x 61.5 x 11.5 mm and weighs 122g. The front TFT capacitive touchscreen display measures 3.5″ having 16M colors but just 165ppi, which doesn’t really impress the color tones so much.

Camera

5MP, 2592×1944 pixels, camera is a pretty decent performer, provided the lighting conditions. Considering the price range, I’m pretty satisfied with the camera quality. The camera is fixed focus, bundled with very few features which includes Geo-tagging, smile detection. Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos lacks LED flash. Talking about the video-recording, the phone is only capable to record VGA recordings at 30 frames per second. No option for video-calling, as the phone lacks secondary camera. Pretty basic camera.

Processor

832MHz processor is what powers this device, the same you can also get in Samsung Galaxy Y. Decent processing speed, with no lags. Smooth functioning, even if you are fumbling across few Android apps simultaneously. Web-browsing is a breeze and the phone performs pretty good while playing YouTube videos. But 1 GHz, could’ve been a really alluring and one could’ve considered it as a decent upgrade over its predecessor. Anyways, smooth performance, no complaint when it comes to the processing power.

Connectivity

When it comes to connectivity features, this Android phone has all the options that includes GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, which can also be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot too. Bluetooth having v3.0 with A2DP. 3.5 mm headset jack for music over the in-ear plugs. Google Plus, Messenger, YouTube and other social media Android apps are there, so you can stay connected with friends and followers on the Go. Full fledge connectivity features with no complaints. Everything works like a breeze.

Display

3.5 inch,320 x 480 pixels, TFT capacitive touch screen display, responds well to multi-touch too. 165 ppi left us in a bit of a daze. Not so deep color tones, even if it boasts 16M colors. Overall, display is sharp, but could’ve been better at this price range, considering the screen size and all. You’ll not feel the difference with naked eye, but overall, it’s quite Okay to go for.

Memory

3GB is what you get as an internal storage, which further can be expanded up to 32GB via micro SD cards. 512 MB RAM for smooth functioning of the phone, seamless flow, seamless performer and 512MB of RAM is more than enough for a device like Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos. Memory card is placed beneath the battery cover. You’ve to take out the back cover to insert/remove the memory card.

Audio/Video Quality

Audio quality through the in-earphones is pretty good. Choosing this as your light music entertainer would be great choice. But music player  is quite simple, with not much customization over sound settings and all. I would recommend you to use PowerAMP as your default music player, you can get it from Google Play Store. Talking about the video quality, the phone, just capable enough to reach the satisfactory mark.

Battery

Is enough to meet the two ends of the day. 1300mAh Li-ion battery, 50mAh lesser than its predecessor. Stand-by time is Up to 570 h (2G) / Up to 420 h (3G) and talk-time is Up to 18 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 7 h (3G). Sounds good for an Android phone, but here are few tips and tricks to save Android Battery life. Still, no complaints about the battery backup.

      Hi Priya,

Out of these four(galaxy ace , Galaxy y, galaxy ace +, galaxy ace dous) Samsung Smartphones, I would recommend you to choose Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, but it’s bit over-priced as per your budget. If it’s okay with you, then go for it.

Else, Samsung Galaxy Ace is a smart choice out of these Samsung Smartphone. Do not worry about battery backup, that works just fine. You can use it for a day without any problem.
Do not go for Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos. Other than that, you can also consider a QWERTY Samsung smartphone, Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos.

    • Amit Sharma says:

Hi Arjun, if you’re looking for a DUAL SIM Android device, then you’re left with the only option, Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos.

Apart from that, SONY ERICSSON LIVE WT19i is the powerful contender among these. If display size is not the problem(as it’s bit lesser than the other two), then I would recommend you to choose SONY ERICSSON LIVE WT19i(powerful music, upgradable to Android OS v4.0 ICS, great internet, user-friendly too ), not boasting about it..hehe.. Else Samsung Galaxy Ace.
