Motorola Motorola DEFY plus, newly launched version of the previous Motorola DEFY is not a recommendable smartphone to settle with. Motorola DEFY Plus launched in September 2011 whereas the Motorola DEFY debuted last year in October 2010. The newer version is priced at 18000 INR whereas 14000 INR is what you have to spend to own a Motorola DEFY. The two devices vary greatly in price but if you take a closer look at the features and specifications they provide, are almost same or in other words one can say Motorola DEFY Plus is not worth the money. How? Read on.
Why Motorola DEFY Is Better Than Motorola DEFY PLUS

- Talking about the processors first, Motorola DEFY houses a 800MHz Cortex-A8 processor, TI OMAP3610 chipset whereas Motorola DEFY Plus is having 1 GHz TI OMAP 3620 processor. The difference between the two processor is that the TI OMAP 3610(what used in Motorola DEFY) is under-clocked version of same, what used in Motorola DEFY Plus. So there won’t be much difference between the performance of the two devices. However, you can overclocked Motorola DEFY to run at 1.5GHz. Try this at your own risk.
- Both the Smartphone has 2GB internal memory, 2GB micro SD card included in the package box, where Motorola DEFY Plus has 512 MB RAM and 1 GB ROM and Motorola DEFY has only 512MB RAM. Both the devices can be expanded to 32GB via micro SD.
- Coming to design and display, both the smartphone measures 59 x 107 x 13.4 mm, not change in the design, display measures 3.7 inches(~265 ppi pixel density), 480 x 854 pixels. No change at all. You can see the image, there’s no difference when it comes to design.
- Both the device sports a 5MP camera with LED Flash and auto-focus, 2592X1944 pixels. Motorola DEFY Plus can record videos at 30fps whereas Motorola DEFY users can enjoy VGA video recording quality. But that’s not a feature to appreciate in the device which is 4K more than the latter. Both the smartphone lacks front facing camera for video-calling.
- Motorola DEFY Plus runs on Android OS v2.3 aka Gingerbread whereas the other one is having Android OS v2.2(Froyo). Geeky users can try Cyanogen Mod 7 which can run Android OSv2.3 on Motorola DEFY easily.
- Connectivity features are same too, 3G with HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA, 2 Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, the only difference is that Motorola DEFY users can enjoy Wi-Fi hotspot when they are having a device running Android OS v2.2(Froyo), rest the Bluetooth and microUSB v2.0 are same.
- Motorola DEFY is powered by 1540 mAh whereas Motorola DEFY Plus uses (1540+160)mAh = 1700 mAh battery to power up the device. Not much difference to appreciate with the price Motorola is selling the newer version.
- There’s not much difference between the user-interface as the two smartphone are based on MOTOBLUR UI with Live Widgets.
- Last but not the least, the price, Motorola DEFY is now available at 14,000INR approx whereas Motorola DEFY Plus requires more 4,000INR to buy.
If you are going for Motorola DEFY Plus, then I would better recommend either buying Motorola DEFY or Samsung Galaxy S LCD which costs 18,258 INR, a far better Android Smartphone than Motorola DEFY Plus. My opinion, Motorola DEFY Plus is not worth the money if you agree with reasons mentioned above.

Well,
You missed the International Protection (IP) – classification. It´s IP67 and that´s what you are paying for. If you need a phone that can be immersed in water (eg. waterPROOF) then this is the right cellular for you.
You can read about IP in the following link
http://www.sp.se/en/index/services/ip/Sidor/default.aspx
Got it?
I was confused between Defy+ and Galaxy sl9003. and you made me more confused. So where should I go I really like the waterproof, scratch less nad dust proof feature of Defy as well as I also like the 4gb memory 4' display of SL.
If LED Flash is not your priority, then I would recommend you to go for Samsung Galaxy S I9003. Motorola DEFY and Samsung Galaxy S I9003 can't be compared. Clear winner is Samsung Galaxy S I9003. But Motorola DEFY PLUS is not worth the money I think.
If you are on a budget, then Motorola DEFY is good to go. So choose wisely from the two.
Thanks for the information over IP-classification, well both the smartphone are Waterproof, Dust-proof.
They are pretty much the same but you convinced me! Thx a lot
Then my work is done, Welcome Nunta
Defy+ is cheaper where i bought it
well, guys now in the stage where defy and defy+ having price diff less than 2k i feel dont think a minute to buy defy+ since extra battery backup matters. If ur good at routing doing on ur own risk then only ignore the 200MHz diff.In addition to that defy+ is coming with 1GB ROM which fastens up the speed with iGHz processor…so go with defy+
Am also confused about defy plus. D most drawback s lack of front camera. am waiting for defy plus with front camera.
Hi Sekhar, now you can buy Motorola Defy Plus if you want to, as the price difference between the two device is not much now.
And I don’t think that they will launch a newer version now just to add secondary camera.
So you can go for Motorola Defy Plus if you want to, else also look for some similar smartphones in the same price range.
I got the defy + for under 13 k at indiatimes….. the phone stands out in the under 15 k android list …i think its a really good buy
Hi Prasenjit, at the time of writing, it was a bit costly, as per now, there are so many Android devices to compete with Motorola Defy+ in 15K price range.
Good deal, though.
Hi Amit, I guess so..but yup i got a good deal on the price …so any pointers on what else i cud have bought under 15 k with similar specs
Hi, now you can buy Sony Xperia U, which is priced at 16,500, a bit more, but a value for money buy. Though, a good buy there, but now Motorola Defy+ is bit old device to purchase now. Rest, it’s good.
Why you want to care your android like your baby ?
Buy Water & Dust Resistant phone. Screen is 264 PPI. Better than Galaxy S
Great battery 1700mAH. How many times you need secondary camera ?
Buy in 14k. Why to waste 22k for Galaxy S ?
Really want to go for a good Phone. Go for Sony Xperia S in 28K
@ amit,
Now, when motorola is shutting down the businees in india , is it a wise decision to buy defy + ?
My budget is 14 k and i m not sure of which phone to buy.
Hi Ajay, that post is too old now. But as per now, I’d recommend you to have a look over Sony Xperia U priced at 15K, a very nice phone bundled with loads of features. Don’t by any Motorola phone now.
